Okay, it has been five days since I installed Windows 7 on my Acer netbook.
Â
How is it going?
Â
Surprisingly well. Performance remains better than with Windows XP. The system is certainly more friendly than before. Sleep mode actually works (like it always has on a Mac) for the first time on Windows. I really, really like the new task bar with the window preview. Reminds me of OS X, maybe even one step better.
Â
I've only actually had two problems:
Â
- • The system won't shut down/restart when I tell it. I have to kill foreground and background programs to get it to go. A minor annoyance.
- • Some files & folders I had stored in c:\temp refused to delete. Said I didn't have "permission" even though I AM THE ADMINISTRATOR. Duh. Even when booting in Safe Mode, it STILL won't delete them. Brain dead if you ask me. And yes, I tried to set the security/ownership etc. Apparently THE FOLDERS ARE NOT OWNED BY ANYONE. Duh again.
I may have to boot this PC off a Linux live CD, just to be able to delete folders!Â
Â
Okay, that does it, I'm booting up Knoppix to "manage" this Windows installation - since Windows is incapable of manaing itself :-(Â Poor job, Microsoft.

Update: Okay, I booted up Knoppix and was able to delete everything except two folders. I'm figuring it must be related to the hard drive corruption. Still, why should I have to use Linux to manage a NTFS volume?  Crazy, but true.
